The anticipated salary range for this role is between $72,000.00 and $85,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Summary
The Benefits Analyst will manage employee benefits and related activities, including third-party vendor relationships, leave administration, and compliance. This role supports the day-to-day administration of benefits, retiree programs, and well-being initiatives, ensuring a positive employee experience and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
• Administer employee benefits programs (medical, dental, 401(k), STD, LTD, Life, etc.) and support open enrollment, benefits communications, and SPDs.
• Liaise with third-party providers to process invoices, leaves of absence (e.g., disability), workers’ compensation, and other claims.
• Communicate policy and eligibility determinations and support daily benefits administration.
• Coordinate with payroll to process benefits-related transactions (e.g., HSA contributions) and support ACA reporting and audits.
• Serve as a point of contact for basic benefits inquiries and collaborate with compensation, payroll, and tax teams to ensure accurate processing.
• Identify opportunities to centralize and automate routine processes.
• Partner with HR and corporate communications to coordinate wellness events and open enrollment campaigns.
• Communicate with vendors to resolve issues and assist in vendor selection through basic cost/experience analysis.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in benefits administration.
• Strong understanding of benefits systems and processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); ability to learn new technical tools.
• Knowledge of employment and labor laws (FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, etc.) and regulatory requirements (DOL, DHS).
• Familiarity with data privacy and security standards.
• Commitment to continuous learning through training, workshops, and industry publications.
