The anticipated salary range for this role is between $92,000.00 and $160,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
The Loan Operations Closing VP is part of the Business Control Department - Americas Division (BCDAD).
The Closing VP is a part of the Loans unit within BCDAD and is responsible for operations of all documentation, funding, processing, and accounting for all various types of commercial loan closings. VP oversees and directs the people and the closing processes. This role ensures that all closing duties are completed and are aligned with departmental and organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Complete coordination, review, and system (LIQ) input of assigned new deals and amendments
- Coaches and supports staff with continuous performance feedback and technical expertise; administers the performance appraisal process and manages employee relations matters.
- Ensure bank’s books accurately reflect the intentions of the credit agreement and credit approval.
- Coordinate the flow of funds at closing.
- Complete assigned projects generally to address workflow or business-related matters
- Adhere to internal and external regulatory policies and procedures
- Ensures employee compliance with bank and regulatory requirements and standards of ethical behavior.
- Collaborates with the Front Office, and various departments to implement new product releases and bank wide initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced ability to interpret credit agreements and related documentation.
- Expert experience directing loan operations processes, risks and teams.
- Experienced in a variety of loan types and servicing including all aspects of funding
- Broad functional experience managing processes and projects across multiple business and technical areas.
- Customer focused team player with expert verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Construct and amend bilateral and syndicated deal structures

- Ability to build a network of relationships across SMBC to obtain a detailed understanding of the overall needs of corporate clients globally, especially as it pertains to trade finance solutions and to facilitate seamless execution.
- Ability to set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track activities.
- Highly organized and thinks architecturally/strategically, understanding the big picture.
Preferable:
- 7 to 10 years of comparable or relevant experience
- Experience managing operations team of 4+ members, including team leaders and managers
- MA/MS/MBA degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or comparable discipline is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Microsoft Office applications and LoanIQ.
