Role Description

SMBC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer who has a strong passion for Enterprise Systems and is interested in building a career at a fast growing and reputable Bank. The Senior Systems Engineer will design, development, automate, test and maintain Linux servers and Openshift container Platform both on-prem and in the cloud. They will be given opportunity to act as both an individual contributor and an integrator, working together with team members and technologies required to fulfil projects and technical requirements.  In addition, the role will require high level of skills to troubleshoot, support and maintain on-prem Enterprise Systems Infrastructure and Cloud Automation Services used by the Bank.  

This role will report to the Vice President Systems Engineer  

Role Objectives: Delivery

  • Works closely with architecture, engineering, and security to implement new products and upgrade existing infrastructure. 
  • Prepares, installs, and implements operating software and associated components. 
  • Plans, prepares, and applies maintenance fixes to system software and firmware as required. 
  • Managing Red Hat OpenShift and AKS clusters to support scalable applications.
  • Debugs and solves problems associated with Unix and Linux servers in production and test environments. 
  • Works on architecture and engineering and security projects to secure Linux or AIX operating system deployment in production. 
  • Assists in evaluating new hardware and software and develops creative solutions to complex technological challenges. 
  • Develops and maintains scripts to automate tasks and deployment. 
  • Develops test plans for implementing new software or new releases of software. 
  • Tunes system software for peak performance and availability. 
  • Provides end users and developers with support including off shift and on call support. 
  • Provides technical training for information technology personnel as needed. 
  • Tests and implements hardware and software upgrades and if necessary works off shift to implement changes with minimal downtime. 
  • Maintains Linux Unix disaster recovery plan and actively participates in technology and business recovery activities. 
  • Discover opportunities and help facilitate a mechanism to change, evolve, improve, and simplify the infrastructure and supporting processes/procedures.  

Qualifications and Skills

  • Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, Red Hat Satellite. 
  • Write and maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code, leveraging Ansible and other approved corporate automation and orchestration platforms. 
  • Assist with migrations to cloud, ensuring best practices are followed and architecture is compliant with company standards. 
  • Participate in the implementation of monitoring systems, for event monitoring, alerting and metrics. 
  • Expert level in troubleshooting and support of Red Hat Linux, Red Hat Satellite 
  • Experience with writing scripts using Bash 
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or Open Shift
  • Experience with GitHub– for code management 
  • Experience with Ansible/Ansible Automation Platform 
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a self-motivated and disciplined approach to learning and working.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate leadership skills when needed.
  • Possess a highly developed sense of personal accountability and follow-through with an ability to effectively prioritize multiple personal tasks, projects, and goals.
  • 3 years of experience highly desired
