This is a hybrid role, requiring the successful candidate to attend our Tralee office.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking a Junior Payment & Compliance Application Support Engineer with a strong interest in Production Support and a desire to build a long-term career within a growing global bank. This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to develop technical expertise while supporting critical payment and compliance platforms that underpin the bank's operations. 

 

The successful candidate will work closely with business users, operations teams, software engineers and senior support professionals to ensure the availability, reliability and performance of key applications. They will gain exposure to enterprise banking systems, contribute to incident management and service improvement initiatives and play an active role in maintaining operational excellence across the technology estate. 

 

This role reports to the Director of Production Support. 

Role Objectives: Delivery

  • Provide day-to-day production support for payment and compliance applications.  
  • Monitor application performance, transaction processing and system health.  
  • Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve production incidents in a timely manner.  
  • Support application deployments, upgrades and maintenance activities.  
  • Participate in the team's on-call support rota.  
  • Support payment systems including SWIFT, SEPA, ISO 20022, Fedwire, CHIPS, CHAPS and ACH.  
  • Support compliance platforms covering KYC, AML and sanctions screening.  
  • Contribute to automation, monitoring and continuous process improvement initiatives.  
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to enhance service stability and operational efficiency. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.  
  • Up to 3 years' experience in application support, banking technology, payments operations or a related field is preferred.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Self-motivated with a proactive and disciplined approach to work and professional development.  
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative and ownership.  
  • Strong sense of accountability with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.  
  • An interest in financial services, payments technology and production support operations.
