This is a hybrid role, requiring the successful candidate to attend our Tralee office.

Overview

SMBC is seeking an End User Experience Engineer who has a strong passion for End User Computing and Architecture and is interested in building a career at a fast growing and reputable Bank. The End User Experience Engineer will support the implementation, optimizing, and support of our modern workplace ecosystem. They will be given opportunities to participate in a highly hands-on role where the successful candidate will be responsible for operationalizing designs, supporting deployments, and continuously improving the day‑to‑day experience of our end users across all modern workplace platforms.

 

This role will report to the Strategic Planning and Operations Manager.  

End User Computing Engineering & Operations

  • Partner with the primary EUC engineer and architecture teams to implement approved designs, standards, and platform strategies.
  • Engineer and operate Windows workstation environments, including image/build processes, patching, configuration management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Support endpoint management platforms to ensure reliable device, application, and policy deployments.
  • Perform platform-level performance monitoring, root-cause analysis, and SME‑level troubleshooting for issues impacting the modern workplace environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across EUC Architecture, Vulnerability Management, and Cybersecurity to support platform initiatives and provide engineering insights based on operational experience and support trends.
  • Collaborate with Service Desk and Field Support teams to reduce recurring issues, improve support workflows, and participate in on-call rotations for Windows platform escalations.
  • Document system configurations, engineering processes, and operational procedures to promote consistency, reliability, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support hybrid-joined and Entra ID–joined Windows endpoints, including build pipelines, patching cycles, and vulnerability management processes.
  • Develop automation, scripts, and tooling to increase operational efficiency and reduce manual effort. Monitor endpoint health, platform performance, and environmental trends, escalating risks or systemic issues as needed.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • 5-7+ years combined experience in Windows end‑user support and engineering, with the ability to troubleshoot issues directly with users while also improving the underlying platform.
  • Strong proficiency with Windows 10/11 endpoint engineering, including imaging, patching, configuration, and system optimization.
  • Hands-on experience providing tier 2/3 support, performing deep‑dive troubleshooting, and resolving escalations from Service Desk or Field Support.
  • Practical expertise with Intune, MECM/SCCM, or similar endpoint management tools for software, policy, and configuration deployments.
  • Experience managing hybrid‑joined and Entra ID–joined devices, identity-based configuration, and modern authentication flows.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and execute vulnerability remediation, secure baselines, and platform hardening.
  • Strong PowerShell or modern automation skills to reduce manual effort and streamline both support and engineering tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across Architecture, Security, Vulnerability Management, Service Desk, and Field Support teams.
  • Ability to create clear runbooks, documentation, and operational procedures that support both repeatable engineering processes and front-line support workflows.
  • Experience administering and supporting Windows 365 (W365) Cloud PCs, including provisioning, policy management, performance troubleshooting, and integration with Intune and Azure AD/Entra ID.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a self-motivated and disciplined approach to learning and working.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate leadership skills when needed.
  • Possess a highly developed sense of personal accountability and follow-through with an ability to effectively prioritize multiple personal tasks, projects, and goals.
