This is a hybrid role, requiring the successful candidate to attend our Tralee office.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking a Analytics Team Lead -Tableau who has hands-on background spanning both administrator and senior Tableau developer experience and is interested in building a career at a fast growing and reputable Bank.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the overall Tableau deployment and usage within the bank, guide development best practices as a Tableau SME (subject matter expert), lead a small team of developers, and ensure reliable, secure, and optimized analytics delivery.

This role will report to the Director, Analytics & Business Applications Manager

Role Objectives: Delivery

  • Administer, configure, tune, and maintain Tableau Server across non-production and production environments.
  • Perform daily Tableau platform activities, including workbook/data source deployments, user and group management, monitoring schedules, and managing server health and performance.
  • Collaborate with analytics developers, database administrators, vendor support, and IT operations to troubleshoot Tableau performance issues and ensure system reliability.
  • Work with report developers to manage deployments, permissions, governance policies, and content strategy across environments.
  • Lead or support high-priority analytics and dashboard projects, providing expertise on Tableau architecture, performance tuning, and development standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute scheduled outages, upgrades, and maintenance windows.
  • Oversee architecture, capacity planning, security, and optimization of Tableau Server environments.
  • Monitor Tableau Server resource utilization; administer nodes, services, and processes to maintain system efficiency.
  • Stay informed on emerging Tableau and analytics technologies and support future state roadmaps of the application.
  • Develop and maintain Tableau user roles, groups, permissions, and governance
  • standards.
  • Create and maintain system documentation and configuration specifications.
  • Prepare support materials, communications, and assist with Helpdesk tickets related to Tableau and analytics platforms.
  • Identify and troubleshoot production issues and data discrepancies; provide timely remediation.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent analytics experience.
  • 10 Years of hands-on Tableau experience with at least 2 years of experience leading a team of Tableau developers.
  • 5 Years of Tableau Server administration experience, including configuration, upgrades, content migration, and performance tuning.
  • Advanced Tableau development experience, including complex dashboards, efficient data modeling, extract management, and performance optimization.
  • Strong SQL querying skills, including Oracle SQL and SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Experience with Databricks and enabling/supporting connectivity within Tableau.
  • Experience with analytics platform installations, configurations, patching, and migrations.
  • Understanding of analytics security frameworks, including Active Directory authentication, SSO, SAML/OAuth, and role-based access controls.
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Visio, and MS Project.
  • Preferred: Experience in banking or financial services analytics environments.
  • Tableau certifications are a plus.
  • Nice to Have: Experience with Cognos Analytics, Alteryx, and/or Power BI.
  • Ability to understand modern AI technologies and their place within Analytics.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear technical documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and meet tight timelines.
  • Excellent prioritization, organization, and time-management skills.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude toward teammates and stakeholders.
