Role Description

Reporting to the Treasury Customer Section Co-Chief, Global Markets and Treasury Department Americas Division-Marketing Group, the Sales Analyst provides support for marketing and customer support functions.

Within the Global Markets and Treasury Department Americas Division-Marketing Group, the Sales Analyst role is transaction oriented and typically has limited participation in strategic decision-making. Consults in both English and Japanese (preferable), with senior management on complex transactions and related issues. 

Role Objectives

The job responsibilities are described herein:                                   

  • Complies with all OSFI and internal regulations.
  • Service SMBC's FX and Money Market customers in North America and Japan as needed.
  • Interact with customers to understand their needs and concerns and communicate feedback to desk; increase frequency and substance of client communications with the business (conference calls, in-person meetings).
  • Interact with other SMBC departments including Corporate Banking, Settlement and Operations, Compliance, and Legal to ensure a high level of communication and collaboration in both English and Japanese (preferable but not required).
  • Transact Money Market and FX transactions via phone, email, and e-platforms.
  • Experience with cash management and credit application management.
  • Support colleagues as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Financial Services, Banking, Trading and Lending preferred
  • Education Preferred: BA / BS (or equivalent experience) Finance, Economics
  • Business fluency in the following language(s) is required: English, Japanese (is an asset but not required)
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of Foreign Exchange, Money Markets (including REPO) and Fixed Income products.
  • Knowledge of global economic releases, market movements, market flows and economic impact.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to successfully work with customers, traders and colleagues in both English and Japanese (is an asset but not required).
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills including familiarity with VBA, SQL, and other coding languages.
  • Strong attention to detail and appreciation of the need for follow-up.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
