The anticipated salary range for this role is between $138,000.00 and $185,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is seeking a detailed-oriented Vice President to oversee the closing process for the Structured Finance Solutions business units. This role collaborates with key internal stakeholders including Relationship Managers, Legal, Capital Markets, and Operations, alongside external Agents and Borrowers to ensure seamless execution of transactions.

This operationally focused role is embedded within the front-office Credit Product Management team, serving as the primary point of contact for managing the closing process of leveraged finance transactions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in deal execution and demonstrate strong coordination skills across internal and external stakeholders.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end deal closing process for bilateral, club, and syndicated transactions, ensuring timely and accurate execution and funding.
  • Coordinate pre-closing activities with internal departments and external parties, proactively resolving outstanding issues to meet scheduled closing timelines.
  • Ensure accurate registration of transactions within SMBC’s credit systems.
  • Act as the central liaison among sponsors, borrowers, agent banks, legal counsel, and loan operations.
  • Collaborate closely with the deal origination team to address and resolve any closing-related challenges.
  • Partner with the KYC Client Management team to ensure full onboarding of all entities prior to closing.
  • Manage post-closing documentation requests and follow-ups with external stakeholders.
  • Support the Team Lead on strategic initiatives and high-impact projects.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of excellence in a fast-paced, market-driven environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5–7+ years of experience in deal execution, with proven ability to coordinate across Capital Markets, Credit, KYC, and Operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of lending products and associated credit documentation.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to escalate and resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in senior loan financings, assignments and complex credit agreement structures.
  • Eagerness to learn and master SMBC’s proprietary systems and tools.
