The anticipated salary range for this role is between $107,500.00 and $126,625.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Grounded in an understanding of the Transaction Banking business, the candidate will support the cash management products and services offered by SMBC AD and the Global Transaction Banking Department (GTBD AD). The candidate will respond to day-to-day queries from clients, GTBD team members, vendors, and functional partners across SMBC.  In particular, they will help develop, test and implement new product features and services across the various cash management suite of products offered by SMBC to our clients. Additionally, the candidate will monitor transaction and service activities, capture metrics, and help prepare reporting for Senior Management in the Americas Division as well as Head Office (Tokyo).

As a member of the Product Management team, the candidate will develop end-to-end knowledge of the products, liaise with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and queries, and stay up to date on relevant industry, regulatory and technology developments impacting cash management and payment activities to continuously enhance the products.  The candidate will become a subject matter expert for cash management products and become a main point of contact for information and queries.

The successful candidate will combine strong business analysis skills, technical knowledge, project management experience, problem solving abilities and a background in systems development lifecycle activities.  Transaction banking and/or payment processing knowledge is a plus.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Support new product development across transaction banking delivery channels (online portal, Direct Transmission and SWIFT). Work closely with GTBD colleagues, external vendors, and functional partners, namely Information Technology, Settlement Operations, Compliance, Legal, etc. Create and maintain metrics for cash management products.  Understand and articulate business requests into business requirements or use cases, conduct testing, and implement systematic changes across multiple applications.

Ongoing support of day-to-day queries, issue tracking, project management and generate internal reporting. Liaise with subject matter experts and data owners throughout the organization. As necessary, coordinate and facilitate meetings to drive execution of program deliverables. Monitor post-delivery and usage figures to monitor transaction volumes and potential issues.

Seek out opportunities to enhance the business through continuous dialogue with team members and other stakeholders.  Act as liaison to promote coordination and awareness of over-arching objectives. Identify business opportunities and efficiencies, create and socialize business requirements to IT teams, brief management on current and future state plans.  Respond quickly and appropriately to queries. Demonstrate self-motivation attributes.  Perform activities with a combination of speed with accuracy. Continuously build a network of internal and external relationships with internal subject matter experts to facilitate involvement and contributions to program delivery.

Role Objectives: Expertise

Experience in the financial services industry, with a focus on transaction banking and/or payment processing.  Familiarity with payment channels (Fed wire, CHIPS) and SWIFT messaging is a plus.

Demonstrate business analytics and be comfortable working with large data/transactions to synthesize, manipulate and tell a story about the particular business activity.

Ability to define business requirements and translate them into appropriate functional and non-functional elements.  Track and report project delivery on a continuous basis and update management and other stakeholders on project status.  Use communication skills to engage effectively with the business, process owners and tech partners.  

Leverage excellent organizational skills to centrally track and report projects and systems development activities.  Update other project managers, functional partners and work-stream leads on program status. Regularly canvas business and tech stakeholders for input on deliverables and timelines. Summarize feedback and highlight key takeaways for management review.

Qualifications and Skills

Relevant experience in Financial Services industry

Knowledge of transaction banking, cash management, and/or payment processing

Ability to comfortably work with large amounts of data, reformat and analyze

Some experience and familiarity with system development lifecycle (SDLC) activities such as Agile and Waterfall methodologies is preferred

Business analysis skills – ability to define problem or process improvement opportunities, identify and analyze and propose effective solutions

Experience supporting system enhancement by documenting business requirements, liaising with Technology partners, and executing User Acceptance Test scripts

Affinity for a high-performance work environment; ability to pivot to critical path tasks, as necessary, and adjust to changing priorities

Ability to multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail

Working knowledge of MS Office suite and SharePoint is required; understanding of Tableau or Power BI, Confluence is a plus

Experience and comfort working with diverse cultures globally
