The anticipated salary range for this role is between $155,000.00 and $195,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Using a number of modeling techniques and data structures, project the potential loss attributable to changes in market values on the trading book. Create scenarios across a number of timeframes. Monitor potential loss across different types of risks. Based on model results, suggest risk reduction and hedging strategies.

Role Objectives

  • Ensure delivery of stress testing, including reporting, enhancement and remediation, audit management, and stress testing needs
  • Analyze market trends and scenarios to predict potential impacts on the company’s portfolio.
  • Oversees effective challenge of assumptions and rationales utilized in stress testing.
  • Defines, develops, and establishes robust stress testing quality assurance control processes.
  • Play a role in maintaining and managing department’s data strategy with initial focus on stress testing
  • Support stress testing requirements from an operations perspective, including documentation, governance, and related reporting
  • Managing enhancement project tasks, which include performing planning, guiding and leading teams, executing and building new capabilities 
  • Collaboration with Technology group on the development of new risk measures / stress tests and improvements to existing measures
  • Supports overall governance of the Capital Stress Testing Program by participating in the development and implementation of relevant policies, processes and procedures.
  • Creates high-quality and well-structured presentations and reports summarizing stress testing activities and results to Management
  • Manages and presents stress testing production status and communicates necessary escalation to Management.
  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications and Skills

  • Approximately 7 years’ experience in market risk management
  • Strong academic record with Bachelor’s degree, equivalent or above in Finance, Mathematics or a related quantitative/analytical discipline preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple high priority deliverables.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally regarding key risks in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Strong financial product knowledge is required, including an understanding of risk representations including Greeks) and a solid understanding of risk management concepts such as VaR, stress testing and scenario analysis is required
  • Display Attention to Detail in all aspects of work and relationships
  • Ability to lead the development of the risk function across the business and to work collaboratively with other business owners
  • Technical skills to ensure that repetitive tasks can be executed efficiently and accurately by introducing automated solutions, e.g. scripting and VBA skills.
  • Ability to code or supervise those who code a plus
