The anticipated salary range for this role is between $155,000.00 and $195,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Provide oversight of the Credit Trading desk by working with the traders on a daily basis to understand the trading portfolio and the related market risk exposure. Ensure trading desk complies with all the trading desk limits and tolerances
Role Objectives
Be accountable for the identification and evaluation of market risk generated by the IG/HY Credit desk and Structured Product desk (CLOs and ABS)
Establish strong relationship with the trading desk and understand their on-going strategies.
Review new business proposals and new product proposals including risk limit setting/monitoring and ensure risks are fully captured within firm’s systems.
Be comfortable with discussing various credit products, their risks and building tools necessary to analyze risk, market data and trade level analysis.
Be responsible for Identification of ‘top risks’ and outlier stress events. Perform ad-hoc stress tests as well as periodic stress testing.
Monitor changes in portfolio and market to extract value-added insight for senior management.
Creates high-quality and well-structured presentations and reports summarizing portfolio performance and results to Management and regulators.
Ability to speak fluently on market events.
Communicate/escalate significant -- large, complex, new, or otherwise noteworthy items at appropriate forums.
Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Approximately 2-4 years’ experience in market risk management specifically in credit and structured credit desk
Strong academic record with bachelor’s degree, equivalent or above in Finance, Mathematics or a related quantitative/analytical discipline preferred
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple high priority deliverables.
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, both written and verbally regarding key risks in a timely manner
Ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Strong financial product knowledge is required, including an understanding of risk representations including Greeks) and a solid understanding of risk management concepts such as VaR, stress testing and scenario analysis is required.
Display Attention to Detail in all aspects of work and relationships.
Ability to lead the development of the risk function across the business and to work collaboratively with other business owners.
Technical skills to ensure that repetitive tasks can be executed efficiently and accurately by introducing automated solutions, e.g. Powerbi, VBA skills
Ability to code is a plus.
