The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000.00 and $200,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation(“SMBC”) is seeking an Associate to join its’ growing Lender Finance Group’s Origination and Execution team in the Securitized Products and Capital Solutions Department.  The Lender Finance Group provides asset-based financing and a range of other financing products and services to asset managers that are leading lenders to US middle markets.  The Associate will provide senior bankers with marketing support in origination, execution, and monitoring of lender finance transactions. This role will also construct terms and conditions and participate in term sheet negotiation.

Role Objectives:

  • Support senior bankers in the execution of new transactions by preparing credit materials, analyzing collateral, and managing transaction processing through the closing process.
  • Prepare detailed, high-quality credit analysis and applications ensuring accuracy, analytical depth, and an understanding of relevant credit metrics, in accordance with internal policies and regulatory guidance.
  • Develop financial models for use in securitization transactions.
  • Coordinate information flow among counter-party asset managers, Origination and Execution team, credit department, and other departments to ensure successful execution of transactions.
  • Coordinate due diligence and approval processes with relevant departments.
  • Run Know Your Customer processes to ensure compliance with internal and external policies.
  • Support group and division initiatives, including syndication and distribution of originations.
  • Develop marketing material and pitch books.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Sound credit analysis and financial modeling skills.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills with the ability to manage a variety of transactions and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to organize thoughts, clearly articulate points, and provide summaries and explanations of transactions, verbally or in writing, to senior bankers and credit other internal departments.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.
  • CPA, CFA preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite is required.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Intex and Bloomberg and programming tools (Python, C++, MATLAB, VBA, etc.) is preferred.
