The anticipated salary range for this role is between $250,000.00 and $275,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Lead or participate in marketing of opportunities to procure capital for clients. Achieve origination and commitment targets in accordance with established risk parameters. Prepare financial analysis and modeling, including detailed valuation analysis. Negotiate and originate structured financing arrangements with lenders across all asset classes and product types. Compile and analyze market research data to develop recommendations on products and services. Lead close collaboration with related parties (including Depts in Japan.) Supervise and support each member internally.

Role Objectives: Delivery

  • Lead and/or participate in the marketing campaign of financing opportunities - interacting daily with clients and capital providers - procuring capital for clients.
  • Achieve origination, commitment and advisory targets by client and asset types through development of performance standards and production goals for teams and staff.
  • Monitor progress on a regular basis.
  • Ensure compliance with existing risk parameters.
  • Supervise the preparation of financial analysis and modeling.
  • Lead recurring marketing update calls with clients and investors.
  • Negotiate and originate structured financing arrangements with lenders across all asset classes and product types.
  • Support / lead the origination and execution of investment banking transaction mandates such as: buy and sell-side M&A, as well as capital markets processes, including debt and equity offerings in the securities markets.
  • Deliver pitch materials and offering memorandums including research.
  • Participate in weekly pipeline meetings to discuss deal flow, deal status and market conditions, and review new and existing client leads.
  • Review market research data to develop recommendations regarding products and services focused on needs of target market.
  • Develop and review customer database including calls and results on all new and existing business relationships.
  • Monitor book of business and recommend remedial actions.

  • Ensure the hybrid banking business is well represented in long- and short-term planning and new product development.
  • Strengthen unit relationships across the organization, especially those units most adjacent such as coverage functions, to grow business and improve information exchanges.
  • Expand business channels through client and investor relationships.
  • Expand unit efforts to network within the industry through meetings, events and involvement with trade organizations.

  • Apply extensive modeling and analytical skills to improve decision making on key metrics such as pricing.
  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of legal, accounting and regulatory issues affecting corporate banking to better craft client solutions.
  • Demonstrate a command of market conditions, rates and financing alternatives to better serve the client.
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills when conveying complex technical analysis.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Recommended years of experience: 15
  • Have FINRA series24 or have high prospects to obtain it soon.
