The anticipated salary range for this role is between $225,000.00 and $225,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Global Financial Institutions Group (GFIG) is seeking an VP to join the Specialty Finance Client Coverage team.  The role entails supporting a team that advises Spec Finance companies on financing and liquidity solutions, capital optimization, and capital raising in the public and private markets.  In addition to its advisory and capital markets role, this team acts as a lender and is also responsible for cross selling clients on the full suite of Corporate & Investment Banking products.

Role Objectives

  • Strong team orientation with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members in multiple product groups and regions
  • Experience working in FI banking across the specialty finance and particularly the BDC sector
  • Strong & deep knowledge of the Specialty Finance industry
  • The candidate will assume a central role within a multifunctional team that is responsible for a wide variety of projects, some of which include:
  • Coordinating and facilitating group idea generation and solutions across products and regions
  • Preparing pitch books and other client marketing materials and assisting with preparation for client meetings
  • Assisting in the development and continued cultivation of client relationships
  • Maintaining internal databases to track comps, deal flow, capital markets activity and wallet share

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelors degree or MBA in Finance or Economics, with a minimum of 5 years corporate finance and/or capital markets experience
  • Candidate must have experience in (and deep understanding of) the FIG sector
  • Transaction experience, particularly working on the capital markets side
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and contribute to idea generation
  • Strong project management skills, including experience leading a team of analysts and adhering to tight timelines
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills with an ability to convey ideas
  • Ability to work independently, while also working effectively in a team environment
  • Advanced proficiency with Bloomberg and Microsoft Office
