The anticipated salary range for this role is between $90,000.00 and $135,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking a Security Risk Management Associate (SRM Assoc.) who is experienced with assessing and reporting on security risks at the system and organizational level. The SRM Assoc. will act as a SME for the third-party information security due diligence process, who is highly interested in building his/her breadth of knowledge in the Information Security Third Party Risk Management space. The SRM Assoc. will also be responsible for assisting on projects and BAU activities for assessing and reporting on security risks and controls for systems and technology delivered by the Bank’s third parties. They will perform continuous monitoring over third parties’ security postures, to support the Bank’s third-party risk management function. 

Scope

  • Function as SME to the Bank and the Bank’s group companies and an advocate for third party security risk around information security
  • Complete third-party risk management reviews from a cybersecurity perspective.
  • Partner with other departments to collaborate on the vendor onboarding and risk assessment activities.
  • Understand third party risk management concepts and controls and can simplify and articulate risk and controls to both technical and business stakeholders.

Role Objectives

  • Perform third-party information security due diligence reviews.
  • Enforce governance and best practices for protecting company data stored, processed, and/or managed by third parties.
  • Communicate policy, procedure, and standard updates to stakeholders concisely and clearly through various channels.
  • Clearly articulate security and technical controls and corresponding technical and operational risks to stakeholders
  • Assess third party technology risks and controls against internal requirements, best practices, and industry frameworks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of information security controls, risks, and best practices in the banking industry.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used banking applications, operating systems, and databases.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud-based applications and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of cyber security and information security best practices and industry frameworks, e.g., NYS DFS Cybersecurity, GLBA, CCPA/CPRA, ISO27001, NIST CSF/800-53, SWIFT Customer Security Program (CSP), Center for Internet Security.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a self-motivated and disciplined approach to learning and working.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate leadership skills when needed.
  • Possess a highly developed sense of personal accountability and follow-through with an ability to effectively prioritize multiple personal tasks, projects, and goals.
