The anticipated salary range for this role is between $126,000.00 and $170,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The VP, FP&A Planning & Control is a hands-on individual contributor role responsible for delivering forward-looking financial analysis and decision-ready insights to senior management. 

 

This role plays a key part in shaping management discussions by translating business performance and financial data into clear narratives, scenarios, and actionable perspectives. While operating as a core execution lead within the Planning & Control function, the role is also expected to proactively identify key business drivers, highlight risks and opportunities, and contribute to challenging assumptions where appropriate.

 

Reporting to the Head of Planning & Control, the VP will work closely with Business Managers, Finance, and other stakeholders to support forecasting, budgeting, and medium- to long-term planning. The role requires both strong analytical execution and the ability to operate with a degree of independence in structuring analysis and framing insights.

 

This position does not focus on BAU works or routine consolidation activities, but builds on established reporting to elevate forward-looking analysis and enhance management decision support.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and take ownership of key components of forecast, budget, and medium- to long-term outlook within the Planning & Control function

• Perform hands-on scenario and sensitivity analysis, identifying key financial and business drivers, downside risks, and upside opportunities

• Translate complex financial information into clear, structured narratives and insights suitable for senior management discussions

• Contribute to shaping management materials, including executive presentations and decision-support decks

• Work closely with Business Managers and Finance teams to ensure alignment of assumptions and consistency across business units

• Proactively identify areas where analysis can be enhanced, including development or refinement of KPIs and performance metrics

 • Challenge assumptions and highlight potential bias or gaps in forecasts with data driven perspectives • Operate effectively in environments where data and infrastructure are not fully mature, developing pragmatic and actionable analytical approaches

• Maintain a strong sense of ownership over deliverables, ensuring high-quality output with minimal downstream rework

Qualifications and Skills

• 5-7+ years of experience in FP&A, planning & control, strategic finance, or management reporting

• Proven ability to operate as a hands-on individual contributor, with strong ownership of analysis and deliverables

• Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and scenario analysis, ideally with exposure to management-level reporting

• Strong analytical and structuring skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear and actionable insights 

• Demonstrated ability to translate financial performance into business implications and decision-making perspectives

• Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and contributing to alignment of assumptions and plans

• Comfort in challenging assumptions and engaging in constructive dialogue with stakeholders

• Ability to operate in evolving or less-structured data environments, using judgment to produce pragmatic outputs

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to tailor messages for senior audiences

• Self-driven mindset with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail
