The anticipated salary range for this role is between $69,000.00 and $85,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Create and maintain credit loss and financial risk forecasting models. Incorporating credit loss models, create credit rating system based on different gradations of risk for loss or default and evaluate loans and positions against those criteria. Calculate expected losses. Evaluate losses across a number of elements and recommend risk reduction strategies including syndication, sale, hedging, etc.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Update / populate credit loss and financial risk forecasting models. Adjust credit rating system as necessary. Categorize positions into credit rating criteria and calculate expected losses. Categorize losses into a number of elements (client, industry, credit type, etc.). Run models against a number of different scenarios to evaluate reasonableness of loss charges and inform capital adequacy testing. Tune models for differences between actual and forecast.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

Work cooperatively with industry specialists, country risk managers, credit review / analysis staff and relationship managers to determine and evaluate potential risks. Develop relationships with units such as finance, compliance, legal and IT to improve workflows and data gathering / sharing. Begin to network within the industry through meetings, events and involvement with trade organizations to better understand emerging risk trends and credit products.

Demonstrate a basic knowledge of credit markets and risk analysis to help create models, risk ratings, loss estimates and to track positions. Apply modeling and analytical skills to help create meaningful measurement and reporting on key risk exposures. Demonstrate a general understanding of information technology and project management, in order to best partner with colleagues in data gathering and monitoring. Communicate analytical data effectively. Develop knowledge of credit structuring. Stay abreast of product trends in order to hedge, syndicate and sell credit positions.
