The anticipated salary range for this role is between $75,000.00 and $120,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. (CM) is a CFTC-registered swap dealer based in New York City. SMBC CM is looking for a Client Onboarding Associate to support expansion initiatives, specialized projects, and day-to-day operational processes within KYC.

This role’s primary function is to perform KYC document review and data processing to support the investor business. The position involves direct and frequent communication with the front office, internal support teams, and occasionally clients. The work environment is fast paced and requires the ability to adapt to revolving deadlines, a strong understanding of internal policies and procedures, and effective communication in managing expectations across various business departments.

Role Objectives

  • Perform daily processing of client onboarding documentation and KYC due diligence in accordance with policies and procedures, including:
    • Ensure collection of CIP information as prescribed by CDD/EDD requirements.
    • Conduct background screening (i.e. OFAC, PEP, adverse news, etc.) and escalate any material results to Compliance for further review.
    • Retain records of all information reviewed as part of KYC completion and ensure that completed work is archived in accordance with document retention requirements.
    • Proactively manage the onboarding requests queue and evaluating potential complexities that would require additional support.
  • Perform data entry of client information into core system(s) quickly and accurately.
  • Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders (legal, tax, and other support functions, as needed) to coordinate the collection and assessment of KYC documentation and other compliance information.
  • Collaborate with internal departments within operations and other support functions to streamline operations processes and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of risk factors impacting client risk rating and ability to write comprehensive audit reports that define salient actions for execution.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations (i.e. AML, OFAC, Bank Secrecy Act, etc.).

Qualifications and Skills

  • BA/BS required
  • 3+ years of experience in financial services or related field.
  • Familiarity with Dodd-Frank and experience with legal documentation (ISDA, CDEA) are a plus.
  • Effective communicator, both verbal and written, backed by strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet time sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical skills and proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
