The anticipated salary range for this role is between $250,000.00 and $275,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Mid-level execution focused team member to support the continued growth and development of the Capital Solutions Group. Candidate will have primary responsibilities for structuring and executing bespoke transactions tied to internal balance sheet optimization efforts and strategic management initiatives. The role involves deep engagement with private credit clients and large alternative asset managers, coordination across internal teams, and hands-on ownership of complex transactions.

 

The candidate will be supporting management board with decision-making on strategic direction, resource allocation, business opportunities, and overall risk appetite.

Role Objectives

Support the Capital Solutions Group, including:

  • Serving as day-to-day execution lead with private credit funds, alternative asset managers, and bank clients
  • Preparing and presenting deal-related briefing memos, credit applications, and other materials to applicable internal credit and commercial decision makers (as applicable)
  • Facilitating investor marketing discussions and deal related negotiations
  • Working across business areas and infrastructure functions (including legal, compliance, and risk management) to ensure alignment and implement new products and control frameworks
  • Resourcefully leveraging various information sources to help contribute to group’s understanding of market trends, deal comparisons, and structural recommendations
  • Continuously reviewing feedback and insights from stakeholders on strategic agenda to gauge impact
  • Mentoring and reviewing work product of junior team members, fostering strong execution standards and professional development

 

Support the ABS and CLO businesses within the Structured Finance Group, including:

  • Managing ongoing relationships with private credit capital providers to assist with the execution of structured lending transactions
  • Providing analysis that contributes to client recommendations on structural terms
  • Leveraging analysis to help provide marketing materials for existing and prospective Term ABS and CLO clients
  • Building and analyzing structures that conform to the rating agency criteria, while working with the Rating Agencies on explicit ratings provided to structures
  • Utilizing Intex Dealmaker to build DMS and CDI files provided to investors and issuers
  • Building out models for new asset classes utilizing rating agency criteria

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in Math, Economics, Finance, Engineering or Computer Science preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in capital markets, private credit, structured finance, investment banking, or balance sheet focused corporate finance
  • Strong written / presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Excel, VBA, Intex Dealmaker, Intex Desktop
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities
  • Deep familiarity with legal transaction documentation, diligence processes, and closing mechanics
  • Ability to be resourceful and multi-task within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to clearly / concisely communicate and summarize complex concepts to various audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions in parallel with precision and accountability
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented leader with a hands-on execution mindset
  • Familiarity with securitization and synthetic risk transfer concepts is preferred
  • Securities licenses required
