The anticipated salary range for this role is between $119,000.00 and $175,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
- Develop and maintain cash flow models for assets and liabilities across multiple ABS asset classes using Excel and VBA.
- Convert transaction documentation into robust model logic, incorporating waterfalls, triggers, eligibility criteria, and structural protections.
- Apply rating agency methodologies and required stresses and prepare analytical materials for rating agency review. Perform pool selection analysis, collateral eligibility and concentration testing, and portfolio sensitivity analyses. Leverage Intex (Dealmaker, Intex Calc, CAS) to validate structures, map collateral data, and reconcile internal models with market standards.
- Produce analytical deliverables including pool selection memoranda, model outputs, stress results, and execution exhibits for internal committees and external stakeholders.
- Support transactions from pre-mandate through closing, including scenario analysis, syndicate analytics, and cross-functional coordination.
- Enhance team efficiency through automation and process standardization using Excel, VBA, and Python. Partner with Capital Solutions, Lending, Structuring, Legal, and Syndicate teams to align analytics with execution.
- Clearly communicate modeling results, structural considerations, and analytical insights, while staying current on market trends, comparable transactions, and rating agency developments.
Role Objectives
- Help support new products and custom solutions to enhance yield, hedge or isolate specific exposures, identify tax or other liabilities, and/or offer new and unique ways to increase leverage that meet legal and regulatory constraints.
- Gather financial statements / levers / drivers, prepare and/or review project and corporate financial models to help originators advise clients on capital and deal structure.
- Develop an understanding of the company's constraints, and financial, economic, fiduciary, legal and tax environments.
- Organize and collect data and feedback from clients (i.e., fees and structure) to contribute to improved creations and/or customized products (i.e., tax deferrals, unique leverage opportunities, etc.) for clients. Collect and prepare market intelligence for product pricing, prepare analysis on potential deal pricing, dilution impacts, timing and potential market acceptance.
- Partner with the broader origination team to streamline internal processes (i.e., information sharing for new securities, private transaction and customized offerings). Create product presentation materials (i.e., pitch books, product highlights, etc.), provide relevant background information on client relationships, and prepare data / info to support client cross-selling meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree in finance, mathematics, mathematics of finance, or a related field plus 2 years of experience.
- Experience must include the following:cash flow modeling in Excel; data processing and automation using Python and VBA; interpretation and application of rating agency methodologies; analysis and translation of deal documentation; and collateral analytics and pool selection.
- The required skills do not need to be maintained over the full term of required experience.
