The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000.00 and $200,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Infrastructure Asset Management team is a growing team within the Americas Division, the team is focused on the development of the infrastructure asset management platform in the Americas. 


The role of the position of Associate, Asset Management will be to work together with other team members across different products and business partners, including the Director and the General Manager in charge of the infrastructure asset management platform. 
 

Role Objectives

  • Associates perform a wide range of tasks including complex financial analysis, financial modeling, preparation of memos and approval documents in the support of transactions and new initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects while communicating effectively with team members, internal and external partners.
  • Conduct research, develop quantitative analyses and synthesize information to provide recommendations through concise and compelling deliverables.
  • Support in the formulation of investment strategies for new funds, defining investment thesis, market analysis, preparing business plan and obtaining internal approval for go to market.
  • Liaise with existing and potential investors, joint-venture partners and other potential business partners in the asset management ecosystem. 
  • Negotiate with existing JV-partners terms & conditions for investment partnerships and new funds in fund raising.
  • Support investors’ due diligence process and formal fund raising requests and process.
  • Provide ideas, leads and origination avenues for new initiatives and transactions related to the investment strategies to be pursued. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 2-3 years of investment banking, project finance, management consulting, asset management or similar experience in the Americas.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a team player approach with a strong motivation to contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Knowledge in regulatory framework in region and fully versed in internal policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage a variety of transactions and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong network of relationships across the Bank to support and facilitate communication and/or execution of new business ideas and opportunities.
  • Ability to organize thoughts, clearly articulate points, and provide summaries and explanations of transactions, verbally or in writing, to clients, management, or other internal departments.
  • Self-driven and motivated; takes personal ownership of specific assignments.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability and can provide mentorship, guidance, and training to junior colleagues on the team.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.
  • Able to quickly learn and adapt to new processes and systems.

 

Education

  • Required: BA/ BS
  • MA/ MS/ MBA a plus but not required
  • Formal credit training preferred

 

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • CFA a plus but not required

 

Software Systems/ Programming Languages

  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
