Role Description

The VP Accounting is responsible for managing daily accounting operations for all facets of the lease payment life. The VP will also lead the monthly and annual closing process. When necessary, the VP will also assist in Treasury and Tax operations. This role reports to SVP Accounting.

Role Objectives

The VP, Accounting, Treasury, Tax is responsible for supervising the accounting staff to ensure that daily operations are performed. The VP will also lead the book closing process, ensuring that all aspects of the close and reporting requirements are completed. The VP will work closely with the SVP Accounting to oversee the department and all its deliverables.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Lead and manage the direct reports, ensuring all their accounting functions are completed in accurate and timely manner
  • Direct and coordinate accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard the organization’s financial assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Review and assess internal controls to ensure financial accuracy and identify areas for process improvement
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports submitted to Head Office ensuring compliance with US GAAP / JGAAP. Experience within a leasing/finance company is a plus
  • Provide financial reporting and analysis to senior management, such as variance analysis, to support strategic decision-making
  • Oversee the preparation of tax filings, ensuring compliance with all the federal, state, and local tax regulations in collaboration with a third-party service provider
  • Coordinate and lead internal and external audits, working with auditors to ensure timely and successful audit completion
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction through improved reporting methods and more efficient workflows
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g. Operations, Asset Management) to ensure financial data is integrated and accurate across the organization
  • Manage, mentor and develop the accounting team, ensuring high level of performance and professional growth
  • Identify training and development opportunities for team members to enhance skills and improve overall department performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounting operations, reduce manual processes, and increase efficiency

Additional Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to decision-making
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure and time constraint
  • Must have intermediate skills with excel to handle multiple manual processes, using formula like vlookup, sumif and pivot tables
  • Knowledgeable of lease management systems (Aspire, Sungard Ambit Asset Finance, or similar application systems)
  • Knowledge of USGAAP, financial regulations, and compliance standards
  • Strong background in financial reporting and accounting controls in a small to mid-sized organization
  • Experience leading and developing accounting teams, driving process improvements, and implementing new technologies
  • Proven ability to provide financial leadership and support to senior management teams
  • 7 to 10 years of specialized experience in Financial Services
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in accounting or finance, including at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role overseeing accounting operations and staff
  • Preferred BA / BS (or equivalent experience) Accounting or Finance
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Lease application (Aspire, Sungard Ambit Asset Finance, or similar application systems), Tvalue (or any other lease calculation application)
