The anticipated salary range for this role is between $142,000.00 and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Sr Python Risk Developer

SMBC is in the process of leading a Digital Transformation across our Americas Division as we continue to modernize our technology, focus on our data driven approach, grow and plan.

As a result of this expansion, we are currently seeking a talented and motivated Python Developer to join our Risk Technology Group.

Role will require a hybrid onsite presence in Jersey City, NJ or Charlotte, NC.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Gather business requirements from various stakeholders and, incorporating the larger strategic and tactical direction of the firm, translate into a set of features and user stories for a specified product. Conduct research and analysis of external and internal factors and develop recommendations for feature prioritization and product design. Create KPIs to evaluate the success of product objectives. Develop criteria for Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and acceptance of completion of user stories. Manage development backlog and prioritization. Set quality standards for delivery and develops plans for User Acceptance Testing. Collect testing feedback and plans for the resolution of identified issues. Monitor product performance and creates KPIs to identify areas for improvement. Lead discussion with development team to set agenda for refinements and improvements to the product. Oversee incident response to product issues and act as a liaison between stakeholders to facilitate communication and resolution.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

Collaborate with business units and product stakeholders to provide insight and guidance for the ideation of new or improved technical products and the development of the business case for implementation. Partner with Product Managers and Development team leads to review and prioritize bug fixes, feature requests and updates, user experience design items, code sprints, and releases. Work with IT Quality Assurance team to conduct user testing, review findings, and ensure product releases meet established quality controls and standards. Maintain communication and relationships with various product stakeholders to gain insight into user experience and be responsive to changes in needs or demand. Work with IT Service Delivery and Performance Monitoring teams to ensure that products are performing up to standards and issues can be identified in real-time.

  • Develop highly scalable applications in Python framework.
  • Create and deploy applications in Azure environment with various interconnected azure components.
  • Understand and enhance front-end applications using React JS, HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Identify and fix bottlenecks that may arise from inefficient code.
  • Knowledge of user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers and environments.
  • Ensure that programs are written to the highest standards (e.g., Unit Tests) and technical specifications.
  • Exposure to Power BI tools is highly desirable.
  • Documentation of the key aspects of the project.
  • Ability to collaborate on projects and work independently when required.
  • Develop highly scalable applications in Python framework.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 10+ year of development experience in Python is mandatory, with optional experience in Databricks and Azure cloud computing.
  • Knowledge of database systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and distributed computing frameworks.
  • Prior experience in building VaR systems is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Solid organizational skills, ability to multi-task across different projects.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Skilled at independently researching topics using all means available to discover relevant information.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task and to maintain momentum.
