The anticipated salary range for this role is between $115,000.00 and $205,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Risk Developer (VP level) with expertise in Databricks, Python, R Analytics, and AI/ML models to join our Risk Technology team. This role involves building and optimizing risk data pipelines, developing advanced analytics solutions, and integrating machine learning models into a scalable framework.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in Python and R, with the ability to convert analytical Python/R notebooks into optimized PySpark workflows in Databricks. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in SQL, have experience in designing complex UI interfaces using Django or React, and possess a deep understanding of AI/ML model deployment and integration.
This is a lead role requiring excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and cross-functional collaboration with risk analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
Role Objectives
Risk Technology Development & AI/ML Integration
• Develop and optimize risk analytics pipelines using Databricks, PySpark, and SQL.
• Convert existing Python/R notebooks into PySpark Databricks workflows, ensuring scalability and performance optimization.
• Design, develop, and integrate AI/ML models into the risk management framework, leveraging Databricks and cloud-based AI services.
• Optimize SQL queries and data processing logic to enhance data retrieval and computational efficiency.
• Work closely with data scientists to deploy predictive risk models into production environments.
Web Application & UI Development
• Design and develop user-friendly, scalable, and responsive UI components for risk applications using Django or React.
• Build interactive dashboards and interfaces to visualize risk data and model outputs effectively.
• Ensure seamless integration of front-end applications with backend AI/ML services and data pipelines.
Software Engineering & Deployment
• Follow SDLC best practices to ensure high-quality code, version control, and proper documentation.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployment of machine learning models and application components.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate deployments and monitor system performance.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership
• Work closely with risk analysts, data scientists, and business teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead a team of developers, ensuring best practices in coding, design, and performance optimization.
• Communicate complex technical solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
• 7+ years of experience in risk technology, data engineering, or software development in financial services.
• Expertise in Databricks, PySpark, and SQL for data engineering and analytics.
• Strong programming skills in Python and R with experience in data analytics and model implementation.
• Hands-on experience in converting Python/R notebooks to PySpark workflows in Databricks.
• Deep understanding of AI/ML models, their deployment, and real-world applications.
• Proven ability to design and develop complex UI applications using Django or React.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug and optimize performance in big data and machine learning workflows.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, experience working with cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-Have Skills
• Experience in data visualization tools like Power BI for risk reporting.
• Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for model deployment.
