The anticipated salary range for this role is between $163,000.00 and $260,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
SMBC is in the process of leading a Digital Transformation across our Americas Division as we continue to modernize our technology, focus on our data driven approach, grow and plan for the future.
As a result of this expansion, we are seeking an experienced and seasoned Technology Manager for Data Governance as a part of the Data Management group. In this position you will be responsible for leading the team with the implementation and ongoing support of the data management practice. The successful candidate will be accountable for driving alignment on Data Governance Frameworks, implementing governance on the bank’s strategic Databricks platform, and acting as a global lead and service owner for the banks Data Catalog and Data Quality tooling. Here you will ensure team member activities are in compliance with and aligned with the bank's strategic directives. This role is well versed in business objectives as determined by project priorities and seeks continuous improvement opportunities through automation and simplification of business processes. You will also have responsibilities for administrative tasks such as attendance, timesheets, resource planning and performance reviews.
As a Technology Manager you will work in partnership with the Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) within the Americas Division and other business stakeholders to elicit and analyze data management requirements. In collaboration with the CDAO, you will utilize current products such as Collibra, CDQ, and SNOW as well as engage in bringing on new tools as needed with technology enablement to help us build a first-class enterprise data management practice.
Role Objectives
- Strategic Leadership and Partnership working with CDAO and Business Areas to align on strategy and execution.
- Databricks governance enablement across areas such as Catalog, Lineage, and Data Quality, and DQ Issue Management.
- Deploy and scale Data Quality Rules, leveraging preventative and detective approaches.
- Ensure MDM is consistently adopted across data consumers to have one source of truth
- Establish and continuously improve “Run the Bank” and “Build the Bank” initiatives.
- Provides regular status updates of team activities including progress of development work to the applications manager, business analysts, project managers and release managers.
- Understands and evangelizes priority project efforts and strategic direction.
- Prioritizes and assigns work from the interface backlog list to team members.
- Performs resource management including capacity planning.
- Respond to regulatory-related requests as needed.
- Manages projects and coordinates the implementation of major production changes.
- Provides man days estimates for interface development work to project managers.
- Determines overall development standards, identifies improvements to the development process and maintains documented coding standards.
- Performs administrative tasks such as timesheet approvals, SOAR/SAM approvals, performance reviews, interface backlog list updates, PRoPS updates and change request submission / updates.
- Leads production troubleshooting during severity incidents and creates/updates incident reports for severity incidents.
- Meets with business stakeholders and other technical team members to gather and analyze application data management requirements.
- Leads the design of and builds data management solutions to satisfy application (business and technical) requirements.
- Collaborates with Process Specialists, Process Owners and Subject Matter Experts to create BPM solutions.
- Assist with the implementation of data management solutions using available data management tools.
- Understands and facilitates team understanding of data management tools, methods and applications.
Qualifications and Skills
- 8+ years of experience in Financial Services
- 10-15 years of experience in data governance, data management, or technology roles
- Proven experience as service owner for governance platforms
- Understanding of global and regional regulatory frameworks (BCBS 239, GDPR, etc.)
- Experience with Collibra Data Intelligence Platform and Collibra Data Quality
- Executive presence and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in banking or the financial industry, preferably in regulatory reporting or credit analysis area.
- Preferred: BA / BS (or equivalent experience) Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related disciplines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in federated governance operating models
- Familiarity with graph-based lineage solutions and AI enablement
- Experience with cloud integrations across a governance ecosystem
- Prior leadership in navigating larger financial institutions
