Role Description
The Cloud DevOps Engineer is the Azure and GitHub expert who designs, builds, and evolves our CI/CD platform for Java and Node.js applications running in Azure App Service. They will also own pipelines for PostgreSQL schema delivery and Azure Data Factory, contribute to Infrastructure as Code, and raise reliability through SRE practices (SLOs, error budgets, and incident learning).
Role Objectives
• Own GitHub Actions pipelines (reusable workflows, composite actions, environments/approvals).
• Implement CI/CD for common application stacks such as Java and Node.js, targeting Azure App Service with slot-based blue/green and automated rollback.
• Manage relational database schema pipelines including drift detection, gated releases, and environmental promotion.
• Establish ADF (Azure Data Factory) CI/CD: artifact validation, publishing, parameterized multi-stage deployments, and post-deploy smoke tests.
• Codify platform building blocks with Terraform/Bicep and integrate infra delivery into application release workflows.
• Introduce and iterate on SRE practices: SLOs/Error Budgets, on-call playbooks, blameless postmortems, and availability testing.
• Strengthen observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and App Insights; drive alert quality and runbook remediation.
• Containerize workloads when appropriate and support AKS deployment.
• Champion DevOps hygiene: trunk-based development, PR templates, semantic versioning, artifact management, and DORA metric improvements.
• Embed security in the pipeline: unit/integration tests in CI, SAST (e.g., CodeQL), dependency & container image scanning.
• Participate in Agile/SAFe ceremonies (standups, planning, retrospectives) and collaborate closely with developers, security, and networking teams.
• Contribute to documentation and knowledge bases, pair with peers and mentor where appropriate.
• Uphold secure-by-default practices (least privilege, managed identities, secrets-in-Key Vault) and tagging/governance standards.
Qualifications and Skills
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure across IaaS and PaaS services.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform; Bicep/ARM familiarity) and Git-based workflows.
• Scripting experience (PowerShell required; Bash nice to have) focused on automation and repeatability.
• Working knowledge of Azure networking (VNets, Private Endpoints/Private Link, DNS, NSGs) and identity (RBAC, managed identities).
• Experience with observability in Azure (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights) and alert hygiene.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics simply and build trust across teams.
• Expert-level experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions (designing reusable workflows and federated identity to Azure).
• Proven delivery of CI/CD for Java and Node apps on Azure App Service (blue/green, slot swaps, staged rollouts).
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL schema migrations and ADF pipeline deployments.
• Familiarity with AKS and container-based delivery patterns.
Preferred
• Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Administrator), AZ-305 (Solutions Architect), AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert)
• GitHub Certifications such as GH-100 (Administration), GH-200 (Actions), GH-500 (Advanced Security)
• Experience in regulated or enterprise environments and with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
• Experience working and collaborating in Atlassian Jira
