Role Description

Design, develop, implement and maintain data resources. Design and develop database structures for applications and systems, determine relational schema and set security policies. Determine hardware needs for database requirements, including server hardware and storage resources. Review reports and perform analysis of database growth and function for future resource planning.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Monitor and maintain data resources. Configure database structures for applications and systems, and manage security policies. Manage hardware supporting database infrastructure, performing updates and maintenance tasks. Monitor back-up performance and conduct testing of back-up and restore system. Monitor databases for performance, connectivity speeds and capacity utilization. Generate reports and support analysis of database growth and function for future resource planning. Provide support for any database issues that occur. Conduct testing for data errors, structure and consistency.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

Work with business units as a main point of contact to diagnose and support database design and query issues, as well as provide training on database use and functions. Partner with IT system administrators to perform maintenance and upgrades on database infrastructure, update security lists, and troubleshoot performance and hardware issues. Collaborate with application development team to advise on capacity and resource requirements, maintain data exchange and API structures, monitor job schedules and operate reporting tools. Engage with network administrators to maintain telecommunication structures, network security policy and access lists, and troubleshoot any connectivity issues.

Role Objectives: Expertise

Possess understanding of database standards, such as SQL, Oracle and Hadoop, as well as different database and data warehouse structures. Display knowledge of data exchange interfaces, APIs, data mining tools, data standardization and cleaning processes, and application interfaces. Demonstrate familiarity with database maintenance tools, back-up and testing policies, security and access polices, error correction and validation utilities, and performance monitoring tools. Show ability to support system maintenance and upgrade projects, incident response, and performance analysis and improvement projects.
